The I-Shift is an unsynchronised manual gearbox, with an electronic control unit, responsible for controlling the pneumatic system that handles the clutch and shifts. Many variants used in both trucks and coaches, particularly the Volvo FL Series, notably:

• Volvo FL 220: Typically equipped with a 5-cylinder engine and used for lighter duty applications.
• Volvo FL 250: Offers a higher payload capacity and is often used for heavier distribution tasks.
